GLENDALE, California – Out of 2,000 public power utilities across the nation, Glendale Water & Power (GWP) recently became one of just 94 to earn the Reliable Public Power ProviderTM (RP3) recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.
The RP3 recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, training and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. GWP earned the RP3 Platinum designation, scoring 98% out of a possible 100% on the criteria.
“We’re very proud to stand out as a model of safe and reliable utility operations,” said GWP General Manager Glenn Steiger. “Credit goes to our dedicated employees for their commitment to making improvements in our system reliability and customer service, as well as to our City and utility leadership for their ongoing support of our initiatives.”
Steiger added that the RP3 recognition will enhance GWP’s standing with credit rating agencies, which is beneficial to the utility’s financial position.
This is the fifth year that the RP3 designation has been offered by the APPA, the national service organization for the nation's more than 2,000 community- and state-owned electric utilities serving 45 million people. The designation is valid for two years.
