Glendale Cancels Dec. 17 Chevy Chase 968 Reservoir Event

GLENDALE, California – The Glendale Water & Power (GWP) Chevy Chase 968 Reservoir and pump station replacement project ribbon cutting scheduled for December 17, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. The community will be notified of any rescheduled event in the future.

Glendale Exceeds Water Reduction Goals

GLENDALE, California – Glendale Water & Power (GWP) announced today that the City has exceeded its goal of reducing water usage by 10% during the months of July and August.  According to production reports, customers reduced water usage by 20% in July and 16% in August when compared to the same period in 2006.  The usage number for July of this year is the lowest it has been in the last seven years for that month.

Glendale Residents Urged to Conserve Energy During High Temperatures and Fires

GLENDALE, California – Glendale Water & Power officials are urging customers to immediately conserve energy as much as possible.  Due to the current high temperatures and fires, our electrical system is being stressed.  As a precaution, all residents are being asked to reduce their electrical energy use immediately to help reduce the load on the electrical system.

Mandatory Water Conservation Declared In Glendale

The Glendale City Council Tuesday night enacted Phase II of the City’s water conservation ordinance declaring mandatory water conservation. Residents in Glendale are now restricted to watering their landscapes three days a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for 10 minutes at each watering station.

GLENDALE, California – Glendale Water & Power (GWP) has launched a new program called Vending Miser to reduce energy consumption, costs and greenhouse gas impacts of vending machines.  The program has a goal of delivering over 3.6 million kilowatt-hours of annual energy savings resulting in a reduction of over 2,400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.  It is estimated the Vending Miser will save customers over $670,000 in energy costs.

This $28.5 million project, which was recently approved by the Glendale City Council, will greatly enhance efforts by GWP and its customers to conserve water and energy use.

Caller Impersonates a Power Employee

GLENDALE, California – Glendale Water & Power (GWP) officials want to inform the public that an anonymous person claiming to be a Power employee called a customer and stated their payment for their utility bill did not go through and if they did not pay over the phone with a credit card their service would be disconnected. They also left a false toll-free phone number to call to verify payment went through.  Although the impersonator never identified themselves as a Glendale Water and Power employee, the victim assumed that it was legitimate call and provided credit card information.  Not until after trying to verify the payment, did the victim learn of fraudulent charges to her credit card.

Glendale Water & Power along with many other utilities in Southern California is urging customers to conserve water this summer. Starting in August we can only water our landscapes three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). There are also many water waster provisions in effect at all times such as no watering of driveways and sidewalks, no serving water to customers in restaurants unless requested by a customer.

Copper Wire Theft Alert

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) officials today urged the public to report any suspicious persons around electrical equipment that are not City employees or driving properly marked vehicles.  GWP officials made the announcement after someone allegedly climbed a power pole to steal copper wire and also damaged a phone ground wire. Police and GWP are still investigating the incident.

New Chromium 6 Demonstration Water Treatment Plants

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) has started construction on two new chromium 6 water treatment and testing facilities. This phase of testing at the Glendale Water Treatment Plant is a critical part of an ongoing research project that will benefit cities and water agencies faced with chromium 6 in their water supplies.

GWP Earns High Marks in Statewide Survey

GlendaleWater & Power(GWP) receives high marks from its customers on how the utility communicates with customers, the level of service it provides, and the reliability of its water system. According to a recent study conducted by RKS Research and Consulting, an independent research and consulting firm, GWP’s ratings exceed those of a statewide average for water agencies in the California.

Fuel & Water Adjustment Charges Decreased

General Manager Glenn Steiger announced today that effective January 1, the fuel and water adjustment charges on customers’ bills will be decreased by 13.5% and 5.5% respectively.
