Water Rate Information

Residential & Business Water Rates

Applies to water sold, supplied, distributed, or transported to customers within the City of Glendale and annexed territories.

  • These rates apply to all Glendale Water & Power water customers with a regular water service.
  • A master-metered complex has one water meter serving more than one unit in a building or buildings. The individual units do not have their own water meters.

Water Billing Unit

The billing unit for water usage in your Glendale Water & Power bill is hundred cubic feet (hcf). One hcf equals 748 gallons.

Brief Overview of Water Rate Schedules

On March 27, 2012, The Glendale City Council approved the water rate restructure and increase for 2012-2015. The new rate structure and increase went into effect on April 27, 2012.

Glendale Water & Power maintains three (3) Water Rates for Residential and Business Customers:

  • Standard Water Service Rate
  • Private Fire Line Water Service Rate
  • Recycled Water Service Rate

Standard Water Service Rate - WSF, WMF, WIR, WMC

This is the rate that applies to all regular water services in Glendale, residential and business.
  • Please refer to “Explanation of Water Charge Components” at the bottom of this page for Water Rate Bill Codes.
  • The majority of residential water services have water meters of 1 inch or smaller.
  • Water Commodity Charge (WCC) is assessed when water is used through your meter.
  • Customer Charge (CC) is assessed regardless of usage.
  • Water Adjustment Charge (WAC) is assessed when water is used through your meter.
  • Total Water Charges (TWC) = CC + WCC + WAC

Customer Charge: Is a fixed monthly charge based on the size of the water meter. Customer charge rates for 2013 are below. Click on each year to see the rates for 2014 and 2015. To determine the meter size of your property check your bill or contact GWP Customer Service at (818) 548-3300.

Water Usage Charge: Is based on the amount of water used during a billing period. The chart below outlines how the water usage is billed on progressively higher tiers. Below are the Water Usage Charges for 2013. To see the water usage charge for 2014 and 2015 click on each year.

Water Adjustment Charge – WAC

The rates for 2012 already reflect the WAC. The WAC does not apply to single-family tiers 1 & 2, or to multi-family tier 1. The 2013-2015 Water Adjustment Charge for water purchased from MWD is not included in the pricing charts as the price will not be determined before January 1, 2013. The dollar amount of this charge may increase or decrease each January and July depending on the cost of purchased water.

Private Fire Line Water Service Rate - WF

  • Fire lines may be connected to automatic sprinkling systems or to hose attachments within a multi-family complex such as an apartment building.
  • Customer Charge (per meter per month) is assessed with or without usage through this meter.
  • Commodity Charge is assessed only when water is used through this meter for non-fire fighting purposes (as recorded by bypass meter) The commodity charge is the same rate as for standard water usage.
  • Water Adjustment Charge is assessed when the Commodity Charge is applied.
  • Total Water Charges (TWC) = CC + WCC + WAC for non-firefighting
  • Total Water Charges (TWCF) = CC for firefighting

Recycled Water Service Rate - WR

  • The rate for recycled water service is approximately 75% of the standard water service rate (~25% discount)
  • For use in special non-potable purposes.
  • Not for human or animal use or consumption.
