GWP Reports and Projects
Project Spotlight
Glorietta Wells Project
Glendale Water & Power has completed the construction on a water system treatment
improvement project in the area of the Glorietta Park Reservoirs. The treating of water has
not begun because GWP is waiting on a permit from the California Department of Health Services.
This project will enhance the water quality for all our customers receiving water from the
Glorietta Reservoir, including the northern portions of Glendale. The construction activity
primarily took place north of Glorietta Avenue between Rustic Lane and Verdugo Road in the park
area and resulted in a new chemical injection building at the intersection of Glorietta Ave and
Rustic Lane. Work also occur at the Glorietta Park Pump Station resulting in bring the building
up to present day fire codes. The improvement to the Pump Station included a new roof, an
addition for chemical storage, Fire Department approved chemical storage system and state of art
electronic control system. The Pump Station and the chemical injection building were connected with
casing pipes for the chemical lines and conduits for the controls. The only visible feature on the
chemical lines is a bridge over the Verdugo Wash.
Glendale's water supply meets all current regulatory requirements as set by the US Environmental Protection
Agency USEPA). However, the USEPA has issued new requirements concerning disinfection byproducts which take
effect in 2012. This project by GWP upgrades its treatment facilities at Glorietta to insure that our water
supply continues to meet all regulations. The Project treats well water from the three Glorietta wells with
chloramines so that it will match the same chloramine disinfectants used by Metropolitan Water District (MWD).
This will allow for better blending of the two sources in Glorietta Reservoir and improve both operations and
water quality.
