Glorietta Wells Project

Glorietta Wells Project

Glendale Water & Power is starting construction on a water system improvement project in the area of the Glorietta Park Reservoirs. This project will enhance the water quality for all our customers receiving water from the Glorietta Reservoir, including the northern portions of Glendale. The construction activity will primarily take place north of Glorietta Avenue between Rustic Lane and Verdugo Road in the park area. Work will occur in the Glorietta Park Pump Station and along the south side of the Glorietta Reservoir in the park. Traffic will not be affected except for the movement of construction equipment and material. There may be some staging of equipment in the parking lots of Glorietta Park during different phases of the project. Access to the park from Glorietta Ave will be limited for periods of time, but the activities at the park will generally not be affected.

Glendale's water supply meets all current regulatory requirements as set by the US Environmental Protection Agency USEPA). However, the USEPA has issued new requirements concerning disinfection byproducts which take effect in 2012. This project by GWP will upgrade its treatment facilities at Glorietta to insure that our water supply continues to meet all regulations. GWP's contractor will install additional facilities to treat well water from the three Glorietta wells with chloramines so that it will match the same chloramine disinfectants used by Metropolitan Water District (MWD). This will allow for better blending of the two sources in Glorietta Reservoir and improve both operations and water quality.

Improvements will be made inside the pump station and it will receive a new roof. A pipeline will be built along the reservoir wall to a new vault on the west side of the channel to treat the incoming well water. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2011. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this project may cause and thank you for your patience. For more information on this project please contact Gary Roepke at (818) 551-6914.
