What is Cool Care?
Cool Care is a refrigerator replacement and recycling program for
low-income GWP customers. It helps reduce low-income electric bills by
replacing old energy inefficient refrigerators with brand new money
saving Energy StarĀ® models.
This program may be modified or terminated without prior notice and is provided
to qualified customers on a first-come, first-served basis until program funds
are no longer available.
According to the U. S. Department of Energy, there are big energy
savings still remaining from refrigerators:
- 7 out of 10 refrigerators sold are not ENERGY STAR qualified.
- 44% of displaced or discarded refrigerators stay on the grid.
- 23 million inefficient refrigerators manufactured before 1993 are
still in use.
- 26% of all U.S households have a second refrigerator and more are
added every year.
