Solar Solutions Program

GWP Residential Solar Solutions Program

Thank you for your interest in Glendale Water & Power Solar Solutions Program. The Solar Solutions program is currently closed to new applications, for any questions please contact GWP at (818) 548-2750.

Cash Incentives to Go Solar

GWP's Solar Solutions Program provides up to $1.86 per watt for installed systems sized 30 KWdc or less that meet program guidelines. Actual incentives on the larger systems will be paid on a per kWh basis for electricity production over the first five years of system operation. Systems installed on affordable housing projects will be eligible for even higher incentives. By law the incentive rates are requires to decline at a rate of 7.0% a year. Incentive calculation will not exceed 50% of the total costs of the system. Incentive is calculated based on customer’s 100% historical usage. Paid incentive will not exceed $100,000 per customer per fiscal year.

What are Green Energy Credits?

Renewable Energy certificates (REC's) also know as green certificates, green tags, or tradable renewable certificates, represent the environmental attributes of the power produced from renewable energy projects. If you choose to keep the Green Energy Certificate, your incentive will be less. If you choose the higher incentive, GWP may keep the Renewable Energy Credits and associated renewable attributes generated by the PV system for reporting purposes.

Solar PV Standard Plan is Now Available

Two new standard electrical plans are now available for your use, which can save you time and money. One plan is designed to cover "central inverter" based systems and the other is designed to cover "microinverter" based systems. These standard electrical plans are based on the California Solar Permitting Guidebook, and they have been updated slightly to include additional requirements imposed by the City of Glendale. These standard plans are available for free, and may be downloaded by clicking on the following links:

Central Inverter (PDF)

Micro Inverter (PDF)

Please note: These standard electrical plans are intended for use on single-family dwellings for systems up to 10kW in size. Larger residential solar PV systems, commercial solar PV systems, and installations which deviate from the standard plans will require a specific plan designed by a licensed electrical engineer. Furthermore, analysis by a licensed civil or structural engineer may be required to demonstrate the structural adequacy of the building's roof construction, as determined on a case-by-case basis during plan check.
