Green Building Program
Constructing and operating buildings requires enormous amounts of energy, water, and
materials and creates large amounts of waste. Where and how they are built affects the
ecosystems around us in countless ways. And the buildings themselves create new indoor
environments that present new environmental problems and challenges. As the environmental
impact of buildings becomes more apparent, a growing field called sustainable design is
leading the way to reduce that impact at the source. Sustainable design is the practice
of creating healthier and more resource efficient models of construction, renovation,
operation, maintenance, and demolition. Increasingly, buildings incorporating sustainable
design are called Green Buildings.
This program will support green building training opportunities for GWP customers, area
contractors, and City employees. Additionally, it will provide cash incentives for design
review, LEED and other approved green building certifications, green building raters, other
technical assistance and support throughout the application process, and to install water
and energy efficient measures through this and other existing GWP programs.
